Strengthen social and emotional wellbeing by providing culturally safe counselling, healing and other supports to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through a range of SEWB activities like individual, family and group therapy and counselling, case management, coordinated care and therapeutic intervention.

About CRAICCHS:

Cherbourg Regional Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Service (CRAICCHS) is a Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation.

CRAICCHS objective is to provide access to holistic and client-centred quality primary health care and social and emotional wellbeing services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the South Burnett regions.

Key Duties:

The duties will be diverse, and although not limited to, will include:

  • Deliver safe and culturally appropriate holistic counselling services, therapy, recognised healing modalities, case management and SEWB support to clients.
  • Conduct culturally appropriate intake and assessments, develop individual holistic support plans and provide crisis interventions and case management services.
  • Establish and support a referral network of agencies and professional counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, traditional healers and other relevant mainstream services.
  • Collaborate with medical practitioners and other health professionals to provide comprehensive and integrated treatment as part of a health management team.
  • Promote services and provide outreach services to ensure ease of access for clients.
  • Promote education and awareness programmes at community events in Cherbourg and other key sites within the South Burnett.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records within the cRAICCHS records management systems.
  • Complete timely reports both internally and to external stakeholders such as funding bodies.
  • Support other CRAICCHS staff with SEWB information impacting other CRAICCHS programmes.
  • As directed, complete other tasks within your scope of practice, skill level, competence and training.

Key Requirements:

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Completed qualifications (or the willingness to enrol within 12 months) in a relevant field such as:

Min Diploma in Counselling
Min Degree in Psychology or Social work
Min Cert IV in Mental Health or Youth work
Min Cert IV in related fields such as Alcohol and Other Drugs.

  • Appropriate accreditation as required.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and delivering culturally safe social and emotional wellbeing services,
  • The ability to apply sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and SEWB issues.
  • A knowledge and understanding of issues connected with self-harm, suicide, suicide ideation and suicidal behaviour at the individual, family and community level.
  • The ability to operate within a case management model.
  • Proven time management skills with the ability to plan, organise and set priorities to achieve identified objectives.
  • Competent computer skills in the use of business technology, internet, MS Office applications, medical software (Best Practice), client management and quality management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to effectively and sensitively engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disabilities and those with diverse characteristics and life experiences.
  • The ability to self-manage while working effectively within a team-oriented environment.
  • The willingness to learn and complete ongoing professional development and on-the-job training.
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or the ability to quickly acquire.
  • Current Criminal Record Check (Police Check), or eligibility to obtain prior to commencing employment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certs or the willingness to obtain prior to commencing employment..
  • Current driver licence.
