Implement and deliver the Coming Home Programme to support incarcerated Cherbourg community members transition from imprisonment to community reintegration in a culturally appropriate, practical and holistic way to reduce recidivism.

The focus of the team is to show care and respect to ensure everyone has a chance to thrive through the provision of programmes that create positive outcomes for all the community and especially for those at risk of offending or re-offending.

Key Duties:

The duties will be diverse, and although not limited to, will include:

  • Engage with detainees, families, Justice Group, Corrections staff and stakeholders to assess specific needs and develop pre and post release support plans.
  • Provide culturally safe and trauma-informed case management for children, youth, individuals and families.
  • Assist clients access housing, education, employment, health and legal support services.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients to assist compliance with supervision orders.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community, Elders and stakeholders through active engagement.
  • Facilitate culturally appropriate programmes, workshops, and activities to strengthen cultural identity and community connection.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, case notes, client records and other documentation to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in meetings, events, initiatives, and projects to support the organisation’s commitment to reconciliation and cultural safety.

Key Requirements:

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Experience in youth work, community services, working with vulnerable children and adults or other similar fields.
  • Availability for rostered hours to cover work out-of-normal hours and weekend work as required.
  • Availability for regular travel to locations such as Woodford, Lockyer Valley and Maryborough Correctional Centres for visitation purposes.
  • Disclosure of any previous serious disciplinary action.
  • An understanding of Justice systems, processes, trauma-informed practice and culturally safe service delivery.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills including report writing and compilation of applicant data.
  • Current C Class Qld Driver licence
  • Current Qld Working with Children Blue Card (or the ability to rapidly acquire).
  • National Criminal History Check or the ability to obtain.

Although not essential requirements, preference will be shown to applicants are also able to provide any of the following:

  • Qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Social Work, Human Services or other similar fields.
  • Case management experience.
  • Connection to, or an understanding of, the Cherbourg community.
